Dev Diary: The name game

Chris is off working on a semi-secret gamebook-related project so this week we’ll share some more fun bug fixes from Act 2.

A number of bugs were related to names, some of which we only found thanks to our players so thank you! We wouldn’t have thought to check some of these. Keep finding creative ways to break the game and we’ll just keep fixing them. (:

Your own name is important. At the beginning of the game you get to choose a name, and the game used to let you continue without doing so, in which case it just called your hero… “You.” You the Hero is just not a fitting name for someone destined to rid the world of evil, so we changed it to require a name. You can now be the more aptly named DuckLord the Magnificent.

Speaking of long names, another issue we fixed was that if both you and the enemy had a long name, the text spilled over into the next line and overlapped with the dice roll display.

Another fun bug completely confused the program. If you named your character the same name as an enemy, the combat froze right at the damage dice roll because why are you trying to hurt yourself?

We think we got all the name bugs though, so feel free to name your character your best adventuring name, like Bob. And anyway, what’s in a name, right?
